SharkNinja

I joined SharkNinja immediately after graduating at the beginning of the pandemic. Air-dropped into their NPD (new product development) season, I eagerly began to work along with the three other members of my team.

KT200UK - Ninja Kettle

I had learned MODO for it’s hard surface capability but my team enlightened me on its potential to make the cleanest renders with V-Ray.

Unfortunately as soon as I became accustomed with its workflow, it was announced that V-Ray will no longer be supporting the MODO DCC.

Naturally I suggested what I had used most in college, Cinema 4D and Redshift. My manager was open-minded and I purchased a license to test it out.

We seemed to like the results enough and the designers were happy as well. We began the process of converting our workflow and plethora of vital scenes to the new DCC.

Everyone, including me, was impressed with the speed that Redshift GPU could do.

Now, we have several 3-D sets to be used for various product renders - saving money from doing expensive photoshoots.

I enjoy noodling on small side projects and have assisted my team in establishing a render farm with Deadline along with setting up a synced asset browser. It proved to be very useful as new artists and freelancers could readily access shaders, templates, and geo from a single source.

Working at SharkNinja has been very rewarding. The challenges are varied and often lead down exciting rabbit holes. I often have to work with difficult CAD and need to model and repair broken components. I’d experiment with X-Particles to create mist and fluids for the newest seltzer dispenser or create training material for a coop that is joining. I’d also explore creating scene and lighting templates that can be imported to speed up the initial setup for certain scenes.
